Lake Winnepesaukah Amusement Park

Childhood is a magical time and nothing brings you back to it quite like the old fashioned fun of the Lake Winnepesaukah amusement park. So what are you waiting for? In the words of The Partridge Family, “come on, get happy!”

Not much sticks around for over 80 years anymore, which is what makes family owned and operated Lake Winnespesaukah amusement park so uniquely special. For decades families from throughout the South have made the trek to the park. Special events, carnival food and, of course, the rides all make it a must visit during its April to September season.

Not quite the mega amusement park of modern times, Lake Winnie (as it's called) harkens back to a simpler time with a nostalgic feel that still translates into fun, no matter what your age.

Two roller coasters – the “Cannon Ball” and the “Wild Lighting” – will catch your breath and have you squealing with delight. Feel your heart drop on the “OH-Zone,” a 14-story free fall. Catch a breeze on the “Wave Swinger” swings, be a part of history by riding the antique carousel, or tour the park in the antique cars.

But the fun doesn’t stop there, there are paddleboats, a Ferris wheel and kiddie rides like airplanes, parachutes, “Bumble Bees” and the “Lady Bugs.” Not dizzy enough yet? Climb into the “Scrambler” or the “Tilt-a-Whirl.” And there is nothing like bumper cars to show off a little road rage!

The newest addition to Lake Winnie is the “Stay & Play Hideaway” interactive area. It features the “Runaround Playground” where children can climb and slide to their hearts content.  The hideaway’s “Chill Down Kidtown” area features interactive water misters and spouts to cool off and relax in. And “Linger Longer” is the perfect shady spot for adults to sit while they watch the kiddies play.

Check the calendar for special events and concerts throughout the season, including a talent search in August of 2009.

Unlike some other parks, Lake Winnie only charges $5 admission per person and then you decide whether to ride, or not. A strip of 14 tickets costs $12 or for unlimited rides it’s only $21.
