Traditional southeast Tennessee music started out with country dances and fiddle contests, but today Chattanooga has much more to offer on the music scene. Chattanooga was immortalized in music history by the catchy World War II song “Chattanooga Choo Choo,” made famous by Glenn Miller. The original Chattanooga railway station, railroad cars and “Track 29” are the cornerstone of Chattanooga’s local entertainment scene. A 24-acre Holiday Inn vacation and convention complex incorporates the railway station with resort facilities. Sleep in original railroad cars, shop, dine and dance the night away to everything from rock n’ roll to line dancing and ballroom.
Local music events are on the calendar year-round. The Bessie Smith Traditional Jazz Festival draws well-known jazz groups from around the country. Nightfall Concerts are a free concert series featuring up and coming artists from all music genres. During the summer, spend a starry night at Coolidge Park for an evening of pop and rousing patriotic tunes. And, the annual Riverbend Festival draws over 500,000 musicians and fans to Chattanooga for nine-days of jazz, blues, country, and folk performances.
